The »Suwa Shrine« is the most important shrine in Nagasaki and home to the »Kunchi Festival«, one of the biggest festivals in Japan. The origin of the Nagasaki-Suwa shrines lies in a small shrine built in 1619, the year in which Tokugawa Ieyasu issued his edict against Christianity.
