The Battle of Ramillies, was fought on May 23, 1706 between French-Bavarian troops on the one hand and British-Dutch-Danish troops on the other. The battle became a resounding victory for the second party. The British troops were led by the Duke of Marlborough, the Dutch by Hendrik van Nassau-Ouwerkerk. The Allied army under the general leadership of Marlborough managed to recapture the vast majority of the Spanish Netherlands from the French in a short time.
