The old presbytery in Houwaart has been transformed into a cozy attraction for cyclists and hikers this summer. Nearby, you have the Walenbos and the Houwaartse ridge with its vineyards. Next weekend, "sprankelend Hageland" (sparkling Hageland) will take place in these vineyards. The winegrowers will

No sun today... no colorful pictures with a sky-blue sky... feels a bit strange. The smell of rain stings the nose, the earth still radiates the warmth from past heatwaves. The forest on the Hageland ridge already seems to be in autumn mode.
The Demer marshes are still dry. Herds of cows grazing in the

What was that today...
Started my hike enthusiastically after a week of "too hot weather" for me.
It was still 29°C... the result... a dip on the last stretch.
But well, it was a nice hike, with lots of sun, a few beautiful passages through green (now beige) nature, but too much concrete for my liking.

I was looking for a shady route and the Asdonk hike in Molenstede is perfect for that. I had done this hike before in another season, but never mind... the heather is now in bloom and on this tour, you will encounter a beautiful heather area. The fresh breeze also provided sufficient cooling. And now

With my hiking buddy, we did a little tour through the Webbekoms Broek. An overflow area of the Demer and the Zwarte Beek near Diest. A refuge for many birds, amphibians,... and with beautiful flora.
A perfect environment to walk into the weekend.

The summer is calmly continuing...
The Laakdal near Tremelo was also calm and shady this morning. The beaver dam on the Laak in this piece of nature is well hidden, but you can immediately tell where it is by the water level.
Not all paths are easily accessible, the blackberries and nettles are doing their

Too beautiful walking weather to stay inside... and the perfect weather conditions to explore the otherwise so wet Demerbroeken in Rotselaar again. The path through the wetlands was calm and with enough shade. The 2 old meanders of the Demer river, which had been closed off for years, have been reopened

Today through the Molenbeek valley and the Silsombos looking for the "black madam".
No madam found, but beautiful and not so beautiful boardwalks and véél véél 🦟🦟🦟
Due to the drought, I could walk along the broken boardwalks in the Silsombos in some sections. Fortunately, renovation is underway....

The Dijlevallei between Werchter and Mechelen was on the agenda today. An unknown hiking area for me...
You mainly walk through a landscape of hedges.
Hedges, rows of trees,... especially grasslands that have just been mown... and in between small paths lying in the shade of the shrubbery.
And then the

Nice, pleasant walk through Lubbeek and De Spicht! How beautiful and flexible nature can be in this, albeit dry, summer. De Spicht is and remains one of my favorite (smaller) nature reserves.
In the last km, I chose to cut through from Steenbergen Castle to the Gempemolen, but due to a beaver dam on the

Looking for a summer bar and then going for a walk from there... that was the plan. My eye fell on "in 't Geniep", a cozy summer bar in Webbekom (Diest). The weather was perfect, sun and clouds, a breeze... ideal walking weather for me. The walk took me along familiar paths towards Kortenaken and back

It was once again a walk with my hiking buddy. One of those where afterwards we both said "we've done that before...", but the surroundings didn't really matter, because we hadn't seen or heard from each other for a few weeks and there was a lot to catch up on. Those 10km flew by and were far too short

Sought the shade in the Walenbos, nearby... and the otherwise so wet broekbos lay quite dry, outside the places where the "springs" come to the surface. I had provided myself with Deet, but the mosquitoes were not yet awake. Coming back on the Motbroekse heuvelrug was blood-hot, full sun and little wind

Kasteel Horst is less than 7km away on foot. It has always been a landmark on my walks in my home region. As a child, I used to go out with my father, here in the meadows and fields, and we would sometimes go boating on the castle pond. The castle fell into disrepair and the boats disappeared from the

The park of Hof ter Laken offers you a nice opportunity to walk from Booischot village to the Grote Nete. The valley of the Nete is green here with meadows and forests... dry of course now, but shady.
Walking along the Nete is fun... there is no concrete path, so no cyclists either! Here and there a path
