Opened in 1979, the museum has a permanent collection of Buddhist statues from the 11th century, as well as paintings and sculptures by modern artists such as Miro and Dali.

After a thorough renovation, the museum has been reopening since March 2019.

The Fukuoka Art Museum is a simple but elegant house designed by Maekawa Kunio. Not only the works of world famous artists such as Milo, Dali and Chagall are exhibited here, but also artists born in Kyushu such as Shigeru Aoki, Seiji Togo and Hanjiro Sakamoto. The museum also collects Asian antiques, important cultural assets such as teaware and Buddhist art, and they are all worth seeing!
