This building was constructed in 1910 as a guest palace for visitors to the 13th Kyushu and Okinawa product exhibition. It differs from other old city halls in Japan by its French Renaissance style from the Meiji period. It is also one of the few public buildings made of wood that is listed as a nationally important cultural asset.
