    Hiking

Stonewalled castle ruin from the 16th century

    September 20, 2020

    Cycling

Off the main road and up a pretty steep and stony path, you’ll find a set of steps you have to ascend. You’ll need to climb over the cow fencing and hike up a field to get to the castle. You can leave your bike at the bottom of the stairs. At the moment, the site is closed due to safety concerns but you can walk around the outskirts of the wall and get some good views of the castle and over the glen towards Ballater. You might see and hear the osprey flying overhead.
Can’t go inside but can walk around outside.

If you combine it with a longer walk in the surrounding area, your visit time will naturally extend.

Is Knock Castle suitable for families with children?

While the castle itself is a fascinating historical site, the access path is described as steep and stony, involving steps and potentially navigating cow fencing across a field.
