Very nice corner, renaturalised by human hands after the training ground and the associated deforestation had not left much nature, soil erosion incl.

The "Naunheimer Heide" is actually called Flora-Fauna-Habitat Eichkopf and probably belongs more to Ober-Mörlen than to Bad Nauheim (when was the area annexed?) and is - like similar military training areas of the German Armed Forces (e.g. Magdalenenhausen near Wetzlar or Erbig/Stengerts near Aschaffenburg) - today a biotope for birds and amphibians.

Still evolving, more scrubland, ponds and grasslands will be added over time. The trees on the plateau will disappear over the next few years as they disrupt amphibian habitat development.

Beautiful views to the west and north-west (local mountain Butzbach).

If you don't know what the abbreviation "FFH" in the highlight name means: It is a "Flora-Fauna-Habitat area", named after a Europe-wide EU law for nature and landscape protection from 1992. It is officially called "Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora", which adequately describes its meaning and purpose.
In order to be designated as such an FFH area, special requirements must be met so that plants (flora) and animals (fauna) can be protected in this habitat. In Germany alone, there are already more than four and a half thousand FFH areas.
