The church, built between 1898 and 1900 based on a design by the architect Carl Krampf, is the third church building in the town dedicated to Saint Lawrence of Rome in Reiterswiesen's history. The old church itself was demolished in 1902. On this occasion, according to teacher Dorsch's observation, the foundation walls of an earlier St. Lawrence Church (before 1608) as well as a "stone cross" with a depiction of the crucified man were found.
