The Botenlauben ruin was built in the 12th century and was the residence of Count Otto von Botenlauben for 22 years.

From Wikipedia: The exact year the messenger arbor was created is unknown, but it is assumed that it was created around 1180. Possibly the Henneberg Burgrave Berthold I initiated its construction.[1] The first known documentary mention of the castle dates back to the year 1206, when its future resident Otto von Botenlauben was named "Otto de Bodenlouben" in a Würzburg document.
