At the Gretel tunnel, maps show the location of the old tunnel entrances and provide information about the various ores that were mined in Kirchsahr. On the initiative of the former mayor Walter Brüggemann, the tunnel, which was renovated in 2000, is a reminder of the history and importance of mining in the Sahrbach valley and at the same time a refuge for bats is created. In October 2019, the Sahrbachtal Circle of Friends commissioned a new lighting system in the Gretel tunnel. Since then, muscle power and a crank mechanism have been used to light up 206 LEDs over a length of 102 meters and illuminate the rugged rock faces. The tunnel is slightly above the Sahrbachweges. Before the tunnel there is a rest area, which invites you to linger.
