On April 12, 1814, 62 soldiers from the “Banner of the Voluntary Saxons” fighter regiment and three Miltenberg ferrymen died when the overstaffed ferry capsized. Prince Emich Carl zu Leiningen donated the tomb as a memorial (his wife was a princess of Saxony-Coburg-Saalfeld).
