BURG BADEN - landmark with stunning panoramic views

Admittedly, the ascent to the castle ruin Baden is a bit steep in the last, short section. But the way is worth it! From the restored keep, you have a wonderful panoramic view of the Rhine, the Römerberg and the Black Forest. It's best to start your walk at the Kurhaus. To the left of the entrance, the easy-to-walk, flat circular route "KaffeemĂŒhle" starts. It leads past the Hildegard von Bingen-Garten, the Badenweiler Gutedelgarten and the beautiful vantage point "Vogesenblick" and then branches off to Burg Baden. Tip: On the way back you can stop at the "Lustschlösschen Belvedere".

The castle ruin was restored in the 1980s. The many high walls show different rooms and the palas. On the northeastern side of the palace, with three subdivisions, it is easy to see that the castle was multi-storey. The shapes of the windows are still preserved.

From one hand to the other ...

It is still unclear to whom Badenweiler actually owes its landmark. The name of the client is unknown. First mentioned in writing is the "castro zuo Baden" 1122 under Konrad von ZĂ€hringen. It is probably much older. The building type of the summit castle suggests that it was built at the beginning of the 12th century. Until the demolition by the French occupiers, on April 6, 1678 in the wake of the Dutch war, changes the ownership of the castle Baden several times. As a dowry she gets, for example, in 1147 as a dowry in the possession of Henry the Lion. He in turn exchanges them for Staufen goods. In 1503 she finally ends up with a donation to the Margraviate of Baden.

Castle ruins above Badenweiler. Very worth seeing and a great all around view of Badenweiler and the surrounding area.

The Baden castle ruins, located above Badenweiler in today's spa gardens, have been restored in order to preserve the parts of the building that are still there. Unfortunately, the destruction of 1678 and its use as a source of building materials for the surrounding residents destroyed a lot. Nevertheless, the ruin has a very special charm and offers a really nice view of the surrounding communities and landscape through the accessible keep 👍
