Originally the "Amberger Volks-Sternwarte" of the Förderverein was based on the so-called "Panzerplatte" in the former training ground Amberg-Fuchsstein. But the lights of the nearby city affected the night view into space and it lacked electricity and water connections, so that in 2006 moved to Ursensollen.
