From the lookout you have a great view of the stone dam wall. The dam was completed in 1914 and was then the largest dam in Europe. The prestige project of the German Reich was even visited by the Kaiser Wilhelm II during the construction period. However, the opening ceremony in 1914 was canceled due to the beginning of World War I and was never made up. Today, the Edersee is still the second largest reservoir in Germany and a popular destination.
