The water tower was built in 1909 when Lüchow first received a public drinking water supply. In 2009, the water tower will have its hundredth "birthday".

Between 1905 and 1909 the Lüchow power station (1905/06) and the associated central water supply system were built, with a water tower designed by Heinrich Scheven (1908/09) at the highest point in the city. The water tower is still a striking landmark today.
Due to its historical and urban significance, there is public interest in the preservation of the water and electricity works on Bergstrasse 10, which were built in the first decade of the 20th century to supply the citizens of Lüchow with water and electricity.
