The village is located in the Kleinbreitenbach basin, a valley between the Geratal in the west and the Reinsbergen in the east.
The Kleinbreitenbach basin has a flora and fauna that is atypical for Thuringia, the basis of which is the above-average warm and dry shell limestone slopes.
For example, plants that are otherwise absent in the area and are native to the Main or the Saale-Unstrut-Triasland are also found here.
