Historic, small place before Sinzig. But it also includes a bakery with a café, a pizzeria, a KSK branch, a florist, physiotherapy, a kindergarten, and a post office. https://www-vervecard.com

One of the few spots on this stage of the Rhine Castle Trail with a view of the Eifel Mountains and the volcanic cones. A glider airfield is located at the edge of the forest opposite.

"Westum is today a district of the town of Sinzig in the Ahrweiler district, to which the settlements of Beulerhof and Nikolaushof belong. Early settlements near Westum are documented by (grave) finds from pre-Roman and Roman times. First mention of the place and development of the place name The first documented mention of the place can be found in the Golden Book of Prüm Abbey in the Eifel region: In a donation from Emperor Louis I the Pious (778-840), he granted a vassal Robert estates in Ribuarien (Rhine Franconia) in 836, including property in Uistrikisheim (or Wistrikesheim, see westum.de). An early mention of Westum can also be found in a medieval document by the later Hohenstaufen Emperor, King Frederick II (1194-1250), who granted it to a courtier of Sinzig on September 18, 1214. (Gerichuino de Sinzich) granted Landskron Castle, estates in Westum (bona in Westhumb), and the Sinzig office (MrhUB 3, No. 19). The place name probably derives from "West-Heim" (home of a Vester, Wester, or Wistrik). The spelling has changed many times over the centuries. Thus, in 836, Wistrikesheim appears, in 880 Uuizrichesheim, in 1120 Westen, in 1219 Weistheim, in 1227 Westheym, in 1250 Westhem, Westheim, Vesten, Westen, Veysten, in 1570 Westhumb, Weßthumb, Westumbh, Westumb, and finally in 1797 Westum (westum.de). Westum as "Murreland" "Westum is commonly called 'Murreland,' which in High German means 'carrot land' or 'carrot country,' because since winegrowing was no longer possible in Westum due to poor conditions, vegetables, primarily carrots, were cultivated. Also derived from this is the derisive name for Westum's inhabitants, which has since developed into a folkloristic self-description: 'Murreköpp,' which means 'carrot heads.'" The Ehlinger Ley, also known as the Ehlinger Köpfchen, lies above the village of Ehlingen and offers a sweeping view over the lower Ahr Valley, including the villages of Lohrsdorf, Ehlingen, and Heimersheim, all the way to the striking volcanic peak of the Landskrone. The 7th stage of the AhrSteig Trail leads directly over this viewpoint, which is surrounded by picturesque vineyards. The Ehlinger Ley invites you to linger and picnic and is a perfect place to fully enjoy the nature and landscape of the Ahr Valley. https://www.ahrtal.com/de/adenau/sehenswuerdigkeiten/ehlinger-ley/poi.html
