"The Bodendorf weir, which was rebuilt in 1972, was an obstacle to the migration of migratory fish in the Ahr until the 1990s. Since autumn 1997, salmon, sea trout, shad, eel and river sea lamprey have been able to travel upstream to their spawning grounds again. Together with representatives of the State Office for Water and Waste Management (StAWA), the then district administrator Joachim Weiler presented this joint water body renaturation project by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the district of Ahrweiler on November 11, 1997."
