St. Pauls Winery

Highlight • Structure

The winery is located in the center of the charming wine-growing village of St. Pauls. The imposing church, which also adorns the logo, testifies to the town's importance in the late Middle Ages – not least thanks to the region's popular wines. At that time, St. Pauls was the main town in the Überetsch region, and historic wineries still line the picturesque streets.

Today, top-quality wines are produced, such as the Sanctissimus from over 100-year-old Pinot Blanc vines or the Praeclarus sparkling wine, which is perfectly matured in a World War II bunker. A total of 200 wine-growing families cultivate 185 hectares of vineyards at 300 to 700 meters above sea level. The product range was completely revised in 2019.

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm
From early November to Easter: Monday to Friday 9am to 12:30pm and 3pm to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 12:30pm

Guided Tours: From April to November, every Tuesday at 3:30pm – Wine Hike. From Grape to Wine – Tuesday at 3:30pm and Thursday at 10:30am from Easter to All Saints' Day.

Winery Castel Sallegg

Highlight • Castle

The Castel Sallegg winery, with its three historic vineyards, offers excellent conditions for the production of top-quality wines. The Seehof on Lake Kaltern is ideal for heat-loving grape varieties such as Merlot, Lagrein, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Muscat. The VIGNA Bischofsleiten is the source of the award-winning Kaltern wine, while the Leisenhof, at an altitude of 500 meters, produces mainly white wines. The Preyhof predominantly grows Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir.

The quality of the wines depends largely on the expertise of the cellar master. The 1,000-year-old wine cellar, with its festive atmosphere, ensures optimal conditions for fermentation. Castel Sallegg combines tradition and innovation and was the first winery in South Tyrol to introduce lightweight bottles made from recycled glass and sommelier closures. The wines are characterized by elegance and refined flavor, offering a unique drinking experience. There is also a restaurant here.

Opening hours: April to October, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Castle Nights every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lorenz Martini, who learned his skills at the family-owned winery, ventured into sparkling wine production. He benefited from his years of experience in viticulture and consistently focused on high quality. His sparkling wine business uses grapes from Girlan, Eppan Berg, and Glaning, which, despite the Mediterranean climate, give the sparkling wine a fresh, distinctive flavor.

Martini uses a blend of 30 percent Chardonnay, 30 percent Pinot Blanc, and 40 percent Pinot Noir. The sparkling wine is produced using the classic bottle fermentation method, in which the wine matures on the lees for three years and then continues to age in the bottle, with each bottle being hand-riddled. The resulting sparkling wine is prized for its aroma of fresh bread crust and honeycomb, as well as its harmonious, full-bodied flavor.

Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 12:00 and Monday to Friday, 16:00 to 18:00.

Kaltern Winery

Highlight • Structure

Since 2016, the Kaltern Winery has united 590 members under its umbrella, cultivating a total of 440 hectares of vineyards. The cooperative sees itself as a "big family" that holds together small, intimate winegrowing structures and offers its members the opportunity to share in a shared success.

Coordination among members, ranging from vine care to training and continuing education, is a central component of its work. The winery sets high standards for its quality policy and monitors the yields of approximately 2,000 plots to create optimal conditions for the wines.

Five main varieties are cultivated: Schiava (particularly from Kaltern), Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Muscat Gold (for the sweet Passito). Sustainability is a central principle, implemented both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The Kaltern Winery was the first wine producer in Italy and the first cooperative to be awarded the FAIR 'N GREEN sustainability certificate.

With 320 members who cultivate their vineyards in harmony with nature, the cooperative pursues the secret of its success through a combination of decades of experience and the constant pursuit of perfection. The terroir, respectful handling of the grapes, and careful processing guarantee unique, characterful wines.

The vineyards in and around Eppan, in particular, offer ideal conditions for varieties such as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Muscat Gold, and Pinot Noir. The mild, sunny climate at the lower elevations along the Wine Route is ideal for structured red wines.

Pfannenstielhof

Highlight • Structure

The Pfannenstielhof in Bolzano, first documented in 1561, is now run by Johannes Pfeifer and his family, now in its seventh generation. The winery's tradition is reflected in both its agricultural methods and its choice of grape varieties. The Pfeifer family relies on natural vineyard management and focuses on the indigenous red wine varieties Schiava and Lagrein.

Johannes Pfeifer emphasizes that the Pfannenstielhof is a pure red wine estate and that the grapes come exclusively from the best, well-ventilated vineyards. They are grown on traditional pergola trellises. Pfeifer is convinced of the uniqueness and potential of these grapes, which clearly stand out from the uniform international taste.

Kobler Winery

Highlight • Structure

The Kobler winery in Magrè has grown step by step. Founded by Erich Kobler in the 1950s, it began with the planting of a single vineyard in 1958, primarily planted with Chardonnay. Over the years, additional vineyards were added, planting various grape varieties such as Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Carménère, Cabernet Franc, and Gewürztraminer.

A decisive step was taken in 2006, when Armin Kobler and his wife Monika began to press some of their own grapes. Since then, they have processed grapes from their two hectares of vineyards and produce approximately 15,000 bottles of DOC wine annually. The remainder of the harvest is delivered to the Kurtatsch winery. Although production is still relatively small, the winery's goal remains clear: to produce wines that best reflect the character of the site, the grape variety, and the vintage. Enjoy carefully crafted, terroir-focused wines from some of South Tyrol's lowest-lying vineyards.

Opening hours: Upon request.
Tours: Every Monday at 10 a.m., reservation required.

Stefan Vaja - Glassierhof

Highlight • Structure

The Glassierhof in Neumarkt has been farmed by the Vaja family for nine generations. The farm's name comes from the Latin "clausura," as the property was once surrounded by a protective wall. In 2005, the family decided to cultivate the vineyards organically and process the harvest in their own cellar.

The approximately 2.5 hectares of vineyards in Neumarkt primarily cultivate Pinot Blanc and Lagrein, followed by Merlot, Cabernet, and Chardonnay. Gewürztraminer is also cultivated in Söll, Sauvignon Blanc in Montan, and Pinot Noir in Mazzon. The Vaja family has been producing its own wines since 2007, which has proven to be a great success.

Tenuta Engadiner Wines

Highlight • Structure

Engadiner Wines is a young winery located in Glen, in the municipality of Montan, founded in 2021 by the Zelger family. The winery operates two different vineyard sites: one in Glen, known for its Pinot Noir, and one in Auer on the valley floor, ideal for Lagrein.

The different vineyard sites offer ideal conditions for the respective grape varieties. In addition to single-varietal Pinot Noir and Lagrein, the winery also produces a Kerner. The winery's philosophy is to produce terroir-typical and characterful wines that reflect the specific characteristics of their origins.

Ploner Winery

Highlight • Structure

The Plonerhof in Marling stands for the diversity of its grape varieties and an exceptional commitment to quality. The family-run winery stretches across steep slopes with gradients of up to 40 percent. This demanding location requires considerable manual labor and precision. A particularly fascinating feature is the genetic diversity in the Pinot Noir vineyard, where 172 different varieties of this classic grape variety are cultivated. A broad genetic variation is also cultivated in the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Blanc plots.

Winemaker Erhart Tutzer places particular emphasis on quality in every step of the winemaking process – from environmentally friendly practices in the vineyard to targeted yield reduction and meticulous winemaking in the winery's own cellar. The result is a range of wines that reflect the Plonerhof's dedication.

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Zollweghof Lana Organic Farm

Highlight • Structure

Franz Josef Pfeifhofer has been dedicated to organic and biodynamic farming for 30 years and produces wines of the highest quality at the Zollweghof organic winery in Lana. The winery, whose cellar dates back to the 14th century, is a small, family-run business. Pfeifhofer produces innovative wines from fungus-resistant grape varieties, relying on time-honored methods such as aging in large wooden barrels and clay amphorae. He combines this tradition with biodynamic practices that further improve the estate's cultivation.

Thanks to the fungus-resistant grape varieties, the vineyards require minimal treatment. All vineyard work is also done by hand, as the steep slopes make mechanical cultivation impossible. Pfeifhofer strives to produce "great, modern, top-quality wines." Examples include his sparkling rosé "Swing," intended as an aperitif, and his "Melissa Gold," a wine infused with lemon balm and served as a digestif. This innovative wine combines the knowledge of organic winemaking with the use of nature and herbs—an ancient yet innovative concept.

Partaneshof

Highlight • Structure

Matthäus Ladurner is the owner of the historic Partaneshof winery in Merano, where he indulges his passion for wine as a winemaker, wine connoisseur, and wine drinker. The winery, which also includes a bed-and-breakfast hotel, is located in Merano.

The Partaneshof not only grows organic fruit, but also produces high-quality wines from a wide range of grape varieties, including Lagrein, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Vernatsch, Cabernet, and Shiraz.

Of particular note is the "Meraner Küchelberg," an exceptional wine made from the local Schiava grapes, which is considered a typical, light Merano Vernatsch variant. Another of Ladurner's favorites is Chardonnay, a fruity and refined white wine that suits many occasions.

Himmelreich-Hof

Highlight • Restaurant

The Himmelreich farm in Kastelbell, run by Markus Fliri, takes advantage of the exceptional climatic conditions of the Mitter-Sonnenberg to produce wines with strong character. Despite its geographical location outside of a typical wine-growing region, the farm has always produced wine, initially for its own consumption. In 2004, however, Fliri decided to increase production and offer premium wines for sale.

The Himmelreich farm's vineyards are located on mineral-rich moraine soils, which has a positive effect on the grapes and the wine. Fliri places great emphasis on natural, honest wines with strong character. The range includes Zweigelt, a red cuvée called "Himmelreich," Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and Riesling. The young wines mature in small oak barrels, which helps develop their full aromas.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Köfererhof

Highlight • Restaurant

The Köfererhof in Neustift, one of the oldest wineries in the Eisack Valley, is located at an altitude of almost 800 meters and is known for its special conditions. The harsh climate with large temperature differences between day and night, as well as the later ripening of the grapes, contribute to intense, mineral, and complex white wines. Gaby and Günther Kerschbaumer, who run the winery, emphasize that these conditions are by no means detrimental, but rather lead to high-quality wines.

The Köfererhof produces exclusively white wines, including Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Müller Thurgau, and Kerner. The Kerner in particular presents a challenge as it is harvested in three phases. The Köfererhof produces around 48,000 bottles of wine annually, all of which are organically produced. The on-site restaurant invites you to take a break.

Opening hours and guided tours: Upon request.
Restaurant: Daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., closed on Tuesdays.

Pacherhof

Highlight • Restaurant

The Pacherhof in Neustift near Brixen has been run by the Huber family since 1142 and is a true legacy of wine pioneers. Andreas Huber, who now manages the winery, follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Josef Huber, who was one of the first to identify the Sylvaner, Pinot Grigio, and Gewürztraminer grape varieties as ideal for the Eisack Valley and introduced Kerner to the region.

Andreas Huber, trained at the Veitshöchheim winemaking school near Würzburg, focuses on expertise, commitment, and passion in wine production. Under his leadership, dry wines with pronounced fruit and minerality are created. Careful processing is ensured to preserve the characteristics of the vines and the soil. In addition to Müller Thurgau, Grüner Veltliner, and Pinot Grigio, the eight hectares of the Pacherhof also produce Riesling and Sylvaner – and, of course, Kerner, in memory of Andreas' grandfather. The Pacherhof restaurant invites you to take a break.

Opening hours: Daily from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Closed from mid-January to mid-March.

Guided tours: Upon request, minimum of eight people.

Peter Pliger - Kuenhof

Highlight • Structure

The Kuenhof in Brixen, a winery with over 800 years of history, has been run by the Pliger family for around 200 years. The grapes grow on steep terraces in the Eisack Valley, located at altitudes of 550 to 890 meters and facing southeast. The harsh climate is ideal for the production of white wines, including Sylvaner, Riesling, Veltliner, and Gewürztraminer.

In 1990, the Kuenhof was converted to press the grapes on-site and market the wines independently. The winery pursues the goal of creating a balanced symbiosis between people, crops, and nature, which is also reflected in the aging of the wines with natural yeasts. This gives the Kuenhof white wines a special digestibility.

Opening hours: Upon request.
