From the province of Limburg, near to North Rhine-Westphalia, to West Flanders on the North Sea, a diverse range of hikes awaits. Despite the absence of high mountains, the landscape is anything but flat and monotonous. Rivers, lakes and moors intermingle with wooded areas, heathlands and hilly terrains – you’ll even find a desert here.
The beauty of nature is just one aspect of the experience here. In Flanders, the next brewery, inviting restaurant, or cozy café is never too far away – as you’ll discover along the Norbertine and Gourmand routes. Along your journey, magnificent castles and palaces beckon, offering some respite in their peaceful parks. But it’s never dull, as there's always something new to discover. Green landscapes are dotted with surprising art installations, lookout towers, old mills and playgrounds, while designated picnic areas provide perfect spots for rest.
Nature takes the spotlight in this narrative. The Bos Route Pietersheim, for instance, has garnered recognition as a premium route by the German Hiking Institute. Within the confines of the Hoge Kempen National Park, this charming route winds through sparse forests and historic avenues, merging nature, history and culture into one enriching hiking experience.
This Collection showcases seven of the most stunning hikes spanning the entire region. Ranging from moderately challenging to easy, these routes guide you through the verdant landscapes of Flanders, covering distances of 6 to 15 kilometres (4 to 9 mi). All that's left is for you to embark on your walking adventure!
This Tour is simply fantastic! Not only do you get to explore the beautiful and impressive landscape of Asbeek and its unforgettable panoramas, but this is an award-winning hike. The renowned German Hiking Institute awarded this Tour their ‘Premium’ hiking seal.
Immerse yourself in the past of the former…
It is a common believe that good things come in threes. The Three Musketeers, Cinderella’s Three Wishes, the Three Wise Men etc.
In Flanders, it is not just three good things. It's far better! We’ve packed three castles into today's route. So many places of interest and so close to Bruges – this hike…
Get recommendations on the best single tracks, peaks, & plenty of other exciting outdoor places.
The Norbertine Abbey gives this hiking trail its name. You walk through old, cultivated landscapes reclaimed by nature; through seemingly pristine, wildly romantic landscapes, which were ultimately created by man.
It all began in the mid-1130s. At that time, Premonstratensian canons founded an abbey here…
This route will catapult you to all seven heavens of pleasure, past old village pubs serving Leuven stew and to Burgundian restaurants.
Hopefully you've got an appetite, because in the Zwalm region, water mills, restaurants and village pubs invite you to enjoy all the good things the region has to offer…
Up and down, down and up. Welcome to Heuvelland. You'll quickly realise that ‘Heuvel’ means ‘hill’ without the need for a dictionary. And in hill country, this noun is an omen for what lies ahead.
This hike takes you around the Kemmelberg formation, with its vibrant natural sights and wonderful views…
This route is named after the Sahara, for good reason – the landscapes here resemble a desert. It’s not surprising that this walk was voted the most beautiful hike in Belgium in 2018.
Fitting for a desert, there is also an experience here which could be described as a mirage here. Perhaps not a real one…
Hoo hoo hoo! How spooky! On this tour, about halfway between Eindhoven and Mechelen, you will meet a host of fairytale characters. It’s likely to also be a bit spooky and you’ll have to be careful not to wake up Slapende Reus, the slumbering giant that gave the hike its name.
You will need to be brave…
