Traditioneller Neujahrsspaziergang der Familie im Angerbachtal, von der Auermühle aus (leider etwas zu spät aufgezeichnet), entlang Burg Gräfgenstein. Wetter passabel, aber die Auermühle war diesmal an Neujahr geschlossen. Das erwies sich aber eher als Glücksfall, weil wir, notgedrungen in der schönen Altstadt Ratingens suchend, auf das einzig geöffnete Café stießen, das Marktcafé - Konditorei, Confiserie , Inh. Dagmar Frik. Das stellte den üblicherweise in der Auermühle angebotenen Kuchen aber meilenweit in den Schatten! Unbedingt besuchen!

Auf der Suche nach einem netten Café für ein Familientreffen (in nicht zu großer Entfernung) möglichem Erkundungsgang (nicht zu lang!) vor einer Einkehr, stieß ich auf das Café Schwan in Wülfrath. Alles war, bzw. ist da: Schmuckes kleines historisches Stadtzentrum im Fachwerkstil, ein Stadtpark, eine gefasste Quelle, nämlich die der Anger und ein "Blauer See", ein Überbleibsel aus dem Kalkabbau in der Region. Die Erwartungen wurden nicht enttäuscht: die Waffeln im "Schwan" waren super, die Gegend sehenswert, eine Empfehlung auch für längere Unternehmungen! Die Kirche im Zentrum der sich rundherum gruppierenden Fachwerkhäuser war leider verschlossen. Sie geht auf eine romanische Saalkirche aus dem 11. oder 12. Jahrhundert zurück, wurde mehrfach umgebaut und erweitert (gotisches Hauptschiff) und ist nach St. Suitbertus benannt. Die Skulptur am Marktplatz - aus dem Stadtwappen abgeleitet - stellt einen Hirten dar, der mit seinem Stab einen hungrigen Wolf abwehrt. Ein Hinweis auf den möglichen Ursprung des Stadtnamens: "Wolverrothe - Rodung des Wolfs".
