After I felt better again after a restful night, of course I couldn't leave Innsbruck to catch up on yesterday's canceled dream tour at least in a slimmed-down form. From the parking lot below the Kemater Alm, it was about 600 meters up the Salfein-Steig to the lake of the same name. What a beautiful place! And as if that wasn't enough, you then go on a ridge path over the Grieskogel, Breitschwemmkogel, Angerbergkopf and Schaflegerkogel peaks. We only took the Grieskogel with us on the shortened tour and a little later we descended to the Kemater Alm.Nevertheless, it was an absolute dream tour and perfect for everyone for whom the 15 kilometers and 1,000 vertical meters of the complete circular hike are too much ...

Actually, a completely different hike was planned for today, which I was really looking forward to. Then everything turned out very differently and I was in bed with a gastrointestinal infection until noon. After 14 hours of sleep it was a little better and if the dog has to go for a walk anyway, why not take the walk up the mountain #onlyinibk. No sooner said than done, it was the Jochleitensteig that leads from the Patscherkofel mountain station around Innsbruck's local mountain. At first the path leads together with the well-known Zirbensteig, but I liked the "back" of the mountain even better when we left all the people behind and had the wild landscape all to ourselves.

The hike today was the full contrast program compared to yesterday: idyllic forest paths, roaring water and mild mountain summer temperatures at a maximum of 1,600 meters made this tour stand out.The highlights were the suspension rope bridge over the gorge, the sea of stone and a stop at the Neue Alplhütte, which definitely got full marks. Besides a few locals there were hardly any other hikers on the way. And you hardly noticed the 800 meters of altitude ...

Have you arrived in Innsbruck with half a day left? Then let's go to the Nordkette! From the Hafelekar mountain station we climbed the panoramic and exposed Goetheweg to the Mandlspitze. We went back a little on the same path and then over the Gleirschjochlsteig to the Seegrube. The panoramas were simply breathtaking and I can understand why the Goetheweg is considered one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Austria. The difficulty was with T2 & T3 - good surefootedness & trekking shoes necessary! Shortly before the end, a shower of hail caught us, but luckily we didn't really start until we got to the mountain railway into the valley.

Take a stroll along the Alpsee, enjoy a little view of Neuschwanstein Castle - that was the plan for this Sunday. The former worked pretty well and, thanks to the bad weather, it wasn't as crowded as expected. The latter is more like that, because with the Marienbrücke all beautiful viewpoints of the Bavarian fairytale castle were blocked and all beautiful paths back into the valley, e.g. via the Pöllat Gorge. And so the last two kilometers unfortunately led us over the hated Neuschwansteinstrasse. My highlight was definitely the narrow path (T2) above the lake, which leads from the shore to the castle.

Hiking through the wilderness with a tent? Evenings around the campfire and waking up to the singing of the birds? This is also possible in Germany, for example on the Soonwaldsteig. I had planned a three-day trekking tour on the Soonwaldsteig for the last weekend. Since the entire 85-kilometer climb would have been too long for me, I chose Schwarzerden or Alteburg as a starting point, which can also be reached by public transport. The first stage took us away from any civilization from the Alteburg to the Ochsenbaumer Höhe trekking camp. In addition to the tent equipment, we needed water and food for a day and a half, as there is no guarantee of a water depot in the camps. Instead, a cozy fireplace and a toilet and a lot of idyllic forest. The five tent sites must be booked online in advance, then you will receive the coordinates for the camp. The climb itself is wonderfully pathetic and mostly leads through varied and, above all, healthy forest landscapes that are rarely found in many places.

I love spring at Laacher See, when the trees are not yet so thick that you can see the lake flashing through from everywhere and it starts to green and bloom everywhere. Before it gets unbearably crowded there at Easter, I used the beautiful weather to hike around the lake on the Naturefriends Trail. So far, I only knew the shorter riverside trail, which often leads close to the water. The Naturfreundeweg, on the other hand, leads over the edge of the crater, further away around the lake. Despite some great views, I have to admit that I like the riverside path better at the end of the day and that it is perhaps more frequented not only because of its shorter length, but also because it is simply more beautiful. Because somehow a little Laacher See feeling is missing without the volcanic bubbles and the many birds and insects that cavort directly on the shore.

What happens to an Oelsbergsteig circular route when the Oelsbergsteig has been closed for months due to the risk of falling rocks? Quite a lot to be honest! Because even without the few safety ropes and ladders, the beautiful views of the Rhine, the many narrow paths through the vineyards and the first blooming fruit trees remain. And if you can also do a quick corona test in the Günderode house and then enjoy wine spritzer and tarte flambée on the terrace with a view of the Rhine in the bright sunshine, Sunday happiness is perfect!

When I'm outside, I'm less and less interested in big sensations than in the little things along the way. The wild chirping of birds, the scent of the forest, the first buds on the trees, the babbling of the brook and sometimes just the movement in the fresh air itself. All of this is available in abundance on the short circuit on the RB3 through Caaner Switzerland. It starts at the Caaner grill hut and leads mostly through the idyllic Saynbach valley and its neighboring valleys. A really nice tour of the forest without major highlights, but with a lot of beautiful nature - perfect to take advantage of one of the rare rain breaks on this rather mixed Sunday.

Admittedly, this tour wasn't a perfect winter hike, but it was definitely the perfect winter adventure. Because on the rocky and stony path from the Torfhaus to the Wolfswarte it can get pretty slippery in winter. If you still want to plunge into the adventure, like us, you should put on proper shoes and ideally also have a couple of hiking sticks with you. Then you will be rewarded with a landscape that I usually only know from Finland. Due to the harsh climate on the summit, the fir trees are frozen into real ice sculptures. And we would be very quick if we hadn't started the descent quickly over the same path.In the end, it took us almost two and a half hours for the less than six kilometers - definitely plan enough time if you are also going on the tour as a snow hike.
