Spring winter is a term I know from Lapland. It describes the season in which the birds greet the longer light with their chirping, in which it splashes and flows everywhere and the first green shoots peek out between the snow fields. This is exactly how it felt today on our tour through the Okertal in the Harz Mountains. You can find more tours around Goslar here: sonne-wolken.de/wandern-goslarFrom Goslar we started in the direction of Waldschrathütte, where we first follow the border path for a while. At the first fork in the road, however, we keep to the left and follow the signs in the direction of Okertalsperre and Schulenberg. With the thick head we reach the highest point of the tour, then it goes downhill on narrow paths on the river Steile Brahmke. The last 1.5 kilometers to the Okertalsperre are annoyed by a paved path, which we then quickly leave to follow the high path on the north bank. Again and again there are great views over the dam.At the Raven Cliffs, the path goes along the road for a short time. Since the Okertal is closed to car traffic for an indefinite period, that's not a problem. The further course of the route through the Okertal also benefits from the road closure. Where the rippling of the water was actually permanently accompanied by the background noise caused by the road, there is now an unexpected and wonderful silence. And I can't avoid making comparisons to spring in Canada or Yosemite National Park.Actually the way back to Goslar from the Waldhaus would have been only about 5 kilometers, but after five hours in the cold the lips were rough and the cheeks red and the request for a hot coffee on the sofa was loud. And so this wonderful spring adventure ended for us today at the Waldhaus, from where the bus goes back to Goslar.

If you pack the most beautiful views of the Marksburg into one tour and then come out with a pretty nice round over the Rheinsteig including small rock climbing, the weekend can only start great. The only hilltop castle in the Middle Rhine Valley that has never been destroyed is my favorite castle on the Rhine just because of its exposed location and the pretty, round turrets. There can't be enough castle views for me on a hike. Oh yes, there were also cute sheep. And the first blooming wild cherries. So all in all a lot of highlights for such a short six-kilometer lap on Friday evening, which can easily keep up with the official "dream paths"!

Admittedly, this tour wasn't a perfect winter hike, but it was definitely the perfect winter adventure. Because on the rocky and stony path from the Torfhaus to the Wolfswarte it can get pretty slippery in winter. If you still want to plunge into the adventure, like us, you should put on proper shoes and ideally also have a couple of hiking sticks with you. Then you will be rewarded with a landscape that I usually only know from Finland. Due to the harsh climate on the summit, the fir trees are frozen into real ice sculptures. And we would be very quick if we hadn't started the descent quickly over the same path.In the end, it took us almost two and a half hours for the less than six kilometers - definitely plan enough time if you are also going on the tour as a snow hike.

Whenever I visit my home country, I always do one or the other tour from my book "52 Escapades in the Harz" to see whether the path is still in good shape and as (beautiful) as it was a few years ago. This time it was the turn of the winter hike from Oderbrück around the Oderteich. With less than 10 kilometers and just 100 meters in altitude, it is perfect for a winter hike in snow and ice, but the paths around the lake are often stony, muddy and slippery, which is why I would only recommend the tour as a winter hike for those who are sure-footed.Still a successful tour and "a lot of resin feeling without a lot of altitude".

Who doesn't dream of a white Christmas? This year we actually found it - namely when I persuaded my family on holy morning to hike as high as possible from our home - and that was on the Rammelsberg, Goslar's local mountain. At around 500 meters above sea level, we actually reached the snow line and the drizzle turned into beautiful, fine snow. We climbed up to the paraglider's drop-off area. There wasn't a nice view this time, but the nice snow made up for it easily. Then we went back past the Ramseck and the Sedecum on the Rammelsberger Weg back to Goslar.

What I shouldn't miss on any visit to Hamburg: A hike over the Wittenberger Heide to the Elbe beach. It starts on the Tinsdaler Kirchweg, which is located directly on the Wittenberg nature reserve. The wide heathland with wide sand dunes & soft forest floor are simply one of my favorite places in Hamburg. The nature reserve borders directly on the Elbe beach, where we continue our hike until we don't feel like it or - as on this day - it is already dark. Then we went back to the city by ferry - the perfect end to a perfect autumn day in the Hanseatic city.

Hiking in Hamburg? Oh yeah! Ideally, of course, if they connect two of the city's most beautiful natural spots: the Outer Alster and the Planten un Blomen park. The tour begins through the parks of Eimsbüttel to the Christ Church. Then let's go to the Schanzenpark for a little falafel break. We continue through Planten un Blomen until we reach the Outer Alster.Always along the water we go north until the Isebek Canal flows into the Alster. We then followed this back to Eimsbüttel. In the end we still had a full 15 kilometers on the clock and proof that you can also hike wonderfully in Hamburg in the middle of the big city.PS: If you start the lap directly at the Christ Church, you will of course save a few kilometers and end up with around 10 kilometers.
