Etappe 16: Von Neef nach Ediger-Eller – Moselsteig
komoot planned a hike.
October 2, 2018
The small town of Neef is the starting point of the 16th stage. You leave the village and change to the other side of the Mosel. From here the Moselsteig leads you across meadows, along vineyards and through quiet forests up to the Calmont summit. The Calmont summit offers you a magnificent panorama. Deep below you, the Moselle makes a wide loop and inside this loop is a hilly promontory. Take a little time here to enjoy this wonderful view.Afterwards, the hiking trail continues along the ridge on the edge of the Mosel valley. On this section you mainly walk on peaceful forest paths, but in several places the trees give you a view of the Mosel valley. From the rest area "Feuerwehrhütte" your descent to the lookout rock Galgenlay begins. The rocky outcrop lies exactly on the Ellerbachtal, a side valley of the Mosel valley, and therefore you have here a great panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. After a final stretch of sun-drenched vineyards, you'll reach your destination, Ediger-Eller.For this day hike, you should pack your morning provisions because there is no refreshments along the way.If you have planned this stage as a day hike or would like to end your hike on the Moselsteig, then you can take the Moseltalbahn back to Neef or on to Koblenz. Ediger-Eller Train Station is just minutes away from Galgenlay Lookout.Timetables can be found at moseltalbahn.de or vrt-info.de.
A very nice hike over the Calmont. I did this tour on 3 days from Tour 14 starting point to 16. I can only recommend. So varied and never boring and boring.Wish everyone a nice hike on Moselsteig. It certainly was not my last tour.
