Ithaca is a college town home to Cornell University and Ithaca College. Approximately 35,000 residents and 30,000 students live in this town. BTW, annual in-state tuition starts at $50k and $60k at Cornell and Ithaca College, respectively. I guess the rich people from NYC sent their kids here to study.
Downtown Ithaca features a pedestrian zone lined with restaurants, stores, etc...
The Finger Lake Region of NY has several cities that are named after places in Greece. There is a simple reason; New York State Surveyor Simeon DeWitt was a student of the classics and frequently drew on classical Greek and Roman history and mythology when naming new settlements in this region in the 1800s.
