Recently I learned that medieval Hamburg's first port was not on the Elbe (as I'm sure some people think) nor on the Alster (as I'm certain practically everybody else thinks), but on a branch of the Bille. Since then I seem fascinated with this tiny creek on which so many of Hamburg's eastern suburbs and quite a few country towns lie.
So today I again took an S2 outbound, to Bergedorf this time, and followed the Bille upstream for quite a while, before I deviated into more rural Stormarn to get back via the U1 from Schmalenbeck again.
Routing was again a bit subpar. In two instances Komoot thought there was a road when all I could see was a muddy field and dense underbrush with no trace of even a footpath, respectively. And on one stretch of path 670 meters long I had to negotiate deep fine sand alternating with breast-high stinging nettles, and in places both combined. But now at least I know how to handle the latter ... push your bike and use it to fend off the nettles on the right-hand side, pushing them out far enough to escape most of those on your left!
