Roque Nublo Cave

Highlight • Cave

At almost 90 meters high, the monolith “Roque Nublo” rises imposingly and is considered an island landmark and a reminder of a harrowing past. He has inspired painters, writers and musicians. The local composer and writer Néstor Álamo described it as “Lírica piedra lunar”, lyrical moon rock, or “Altar de mi tierra maga”, altar of my enchanting homeland.

December 14, 2021,Roque Nublo & El Montañón loop
A really nice and not too challenging loop around El Montañón. Roque Nublo is quite crowded, but there are also many secluded and quiet places.
Nice round around the Roque Nublo. You can stop off in Ayacante. Parking can be a bit difficult. We chose a bay on the side of the road.

With the bus no. 18 from Maspalomas to Ayacata Bus Stop - Perfect starting point to the Roque Nublo (cloud rock), the symbol of Cran Canaria with an impressive mountain landscape

Challenging but very nice. Sturdy shoes are a must. The perfect route for anyone who wants to do more than just the 0815 tourist path to Roque Nublo. 1-2 liters of water per person is recommended.

Very nice round to Roque Nublo. Especially now at the time of almond blossom

So the ascent in the blazing sun was exhausting, but in the rain you couldn't go the tour.
First it goes relaxed along the street until it goes right on the first ascent. Over hill and dale through partly prickly undergrowth. Halfway up you cross another street and have a view of Tenerife for the first time.
Here you finally …

To escape the unbelievable bad weather in Hamburg, I spontaneously flew to Gran Canaria yesterday and immediately picked up the Canarian light/heat flash this morning. Roque Nublo is really only recommended very early in the morning (it tends to get very crowded from late morning onwards), even if you have to spend 45 minutes climbing up steep serpentine roads in …
