The steep ridge trail runs on the rock spur between the Rhine and Mühlbach. Ideal to descend back to Boppard from the Mittelrheinsteig and Vierseeblick.

The 2000-year-old Boppard is located on the largest loop of the Rhine on the way through the Rhenish Slate Mountains to the north German plain. The river here changes direction twice, almost 180 degrees, in a double S-curve.

We garnished today's hike with a few climbing inserts.
The via ferrata on the Middle Rhine is a simple via ferrata that has a few climbing passages ready for the first 2 km.
Again and again you have a beautiful view of the Rhine loop near Boppard.
We had a lot of fun climbing.

A practice round for us and the climbing equipment. The path is very nicely done. It is definitely enough for practicing and trying things out. The weather was nice today, but we still encountered surprisingly few hikers.

This morning I took the ferry over to Boppard. There I did the Middle Rhine via ferrata, which has been on my list for a while!
Great via ferrata, especially for beginners like me. Always amazing views of the largest loop of the Rhine and the 'Four Lakes View'. The hiking trails between the climbs and at the end are …

It shouldn't be that hot! But still nice round with via ferrata. Entrance behind the large car park after the Aral petrol station (you can also hire via ferrata sets there. 20€ deposit and 8€ rental fee, on weekends it is best to reserve in advance!). Then follow the signs for the first small climb. Then you go into the …

On the first day of our holiday on the Rhine we decided to do the Mittelrhein via ferrata. Since we couldn't assess what to expect, we borrowed climbing harnesses. As a beginner, we found the climbing passages quite challenging and we were glad that we were able to secure ourselves. But it was great fun.

Demanding via ferrata, unsecured, only recommended if you are sure-footed, have climbing experience and are not afraid of heights. Alternatively, you can avoid critical spots as a hiking option.

Yes, that's right. I've adjusted the title again. Thanks for the tip.

The Rhine via ferrata in Boppard - there are probably few via ferratas where you come into contact with metal as much as possible... Anyone who associates "climbing" mainly with "mountain & rock" is certainly wrong here. But otherwise this well-developed climbing path, which is always secured everywhere, is a nice day event. Easy to master via iron cramps and …
