Ascent to Mooshäuschen

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

Not the hardest climb on the reservoir circuit, but still gets your legs moving. But the views are worth every strenuous climb!

Hohenwarte Dam

Highlight • Monument

This 75 meter high and 412 meter long dam was built between 1936 and 1942. This required 250 people to give up their homes - an entire village was flooded …

A beautiful camping and swimming - the Thuringian Lake Garda only the high mountains are missing and a bit cooler it is ;-)

The view alone is sensational. There is a wooden bench right under the large rock where you can linger.

Linkenmühle Ferry

Highlight • Structure

Always fun to take the ferry, although a bridge wouldn't be bad either. The restaurant is also recommended.

The view of the Saaleschleife is simply worth seeing. A resting bench directly with a view! You can take a wonderful break here.

The bark beetle has changed the landscape dramatically. Great views, but also huge bare areas have emerged.
The paths and trails are still great and easy to ride.

I got the tour from the "mountain bike" When you start in Ziegenrück, you first ask yourself why you need a 150mm fully here!? It goes, past great views, steeply up from the Saale valley to the plateau. Here you drive forever tar, country roads and partly overgrown forest paths!
From the "Gustavs Ruh" it gets interesting; it goes steeply …

After spending the night in Hohenfelden, the goal for the day should be the MTB circuit around the Hohenwarte reservoir (4:05 h / 13.4 km/h). 🏞

Parked right after the dam wall, we drove clockwise and after passing it and a little foretaste of the climbs, the MTB terrain lured us. 🤩
The northern terrain is very varied and also …

The tour around the Hohenwarte reservoir is highly recommended. I did the tour clockwise and loved it! In my opinion, the direction of travel would be just as possible in the opposite direction. The route consists of approx. 40% cool, partly narrow trails and 40% forest/forest paths. The rest of the roads, connecting paths via campsites or similar.
In order …

I have to thank my school friend from Ilmenau(@germangeo) for such a nice tour idea.
I was only supposed to download it for him (GPX file) - he wanted to ride it with friends today.
Since they were already a large enough group and I prefer to take 2 more photos, we started alone.
The weather was perfect for it. …

Great tour, but very toxic climbs and difficulty levels that are not suitable for all passengers.
But the bottle of white wine at the end makes the pain and curses fade in the setting sun 😎😇😜

It was really a brilliant tour, but it demanded a lot from me. You don't want to believe it at 61 km. There are some pushing and carrying passages and not every section is recommended. But most of the trails are really great.

Showing Translation

Today again the annual reservoir round. Was quite wet on top and slippery on the bottom. The hiking trails are getting worse and worse every year. Especially between the Linkenmühle and Ziegenrück, in the area of the Teufelskanzel 🙈
