Anyone who passes by here has really missed something. In and around the cattle barn everything is just great. The ambience, the food, the service, the beer. What can I say? Here you just feel good all around and almost forget to stamp when your stomach is so full. :-)

😎The Silberteich is a pond in the Upper Harz that was once created for mining purposes. It is located in the Harz National Park on the upper reaches of the Brunnenbach, which rises south of Königskrug. The artificial body of water, surrounded by forest on all sides, is located about two kilometers west of Braunlage city center.
The silver pond was originally called “Brunnenbacher Teich” or “Andreasberger Teich”. It was built in the middle of the 18th century. It served to supply water to the ore mines in the nearby Oder valley.
In December 1760, the pond dam, which had only recently been completed, broke, which resulted in the destruction of the Brunnenbachsmühle downstream. This accident claimed several lives at the time. The dam was then rebuilt, which is why the people in the area referred to the resulting backwater as the “New Pond” for a long time afterwards.
Today a hiking trail leads over the approximately 90 meter long and approximately 14 meter high pond dam, which connects the Upper Harz towns of Braunlage and St. Andreasberg. The silver pond itself is around 280 meters long and has a maximum width of 70 meters. Large parts of the northwest bank area form a valuable biotope and are not directly accessible.

Not just a nice place for a break! The Sonnenberger Graben and the Rehberger Graben date back to the mining era in the Harz. The two ditches that are joined here were used to supply water to the mining industry at the time. There are said to be around 1,600 of these ditch systems in the Harz.

The national park forest restaurant Rehberger Grabenhaus is located about 2 km north of Sankt Andreasberg on the Rehberger Grabenweg, one of the most attractive hiking trails in the Harz National Park. The inn and hiking trail owe their names to the Rehberger Graben built by miners in the 17th century, which today is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Rammelsberg Ore Mine, Goslar Old Town, Upper Harz Water Management System.

In summer, the national park forest restaurant Rehberger Grabenhaus is a popular destination for hikers and mountain bikers. It can be easily reached from the Dreibrodesteine car park via a well-developed, approximately 900 m long path with little incline, even with wheelchairs, prams or for older people.

At the Rehberger Grabenhaus there is a stamp office for the Harzer hiking nobility. Not far from the inn is Goetheplatz, where the scientist and poet conducted his well-known studies on granite contact.

The three-toed stones are three oversized blocks of granite that were created by weathering wool sacks.
According to a legend, they were made from three loaves of bread from a heartless woman who refused to help a starving miner. With the words “My three loaves should be turned into stones” she ignored the miner and then the loaves grew into huge stones and pushed the woman into the mossy ground. The granite blocks are supposed to be a warning against heartlessness.

Today a nice hike around Sankt Andreasberg. My final highlight, of course, is the wheat. I noticed that I will miss the spruce trees after all. Their deep rustling in the wind is so mysterious. The rustling of a deciduous tree doesn't quite make it to that point.

Today was a complete contrast to yesterday 🌦☔️
True to the motto "There's no such thing as bad weather," the journey began in pouring rain. Sunshine behind Elbingerode and thick fog from Braunlage onwards...
When we arrived at the parking lot, it started to rain 😂🙈
No matter, put on your rain jacket and off we went 💚💚💚

We wanted to go hiking again and have something decent to eat. On Komoot we found a route with two places to stop. We set off from a hiking car park. First we got a lot of input about stones. We had great weather. 18 degrees, bright sunshine and hardly any wind. The first place to stop was the Rehberger …

Ok, actually I wanted to go cross-country skiing, the skis were already in the car. Last weekend there was fantastic winter weather - this weekend the snow was completely gone - that would have looked pretty silly with cross-country skis on your feet ;-)
So I did the whole thing on foot and collected the stamps.

We set off in two cars so that we would be mobile at the start and finish of today's hike. The first stretch with 4 stamp stations was completed quickly, even though the climb is always very strenuous for us. When we reached the finish, I suggested doing one more stamp station, because the hike starts at the parking lot …
