Heller Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

A wooden structure called Neustädter Hütte was built in 1900 and was replaced by a massive structure in 1910. The first major expansion took place in 1922 with the construction of the main house, in which the original hut was converted into a porch.

In 1924, the first water supply was implemented by installing a pump system. With the addition of the left wing in 1931, the second major expansion took place.

After the Second World War, the hut fell to the children's and youth association "Die Falken". After the hut was returned in 1949, extensive repair work was necessary. A power supply was only established in 1974/75.

The third expansion through the addition of the right wing took place in 1982/83.

The hut received media attention in 1961 through the criminal activities of the Kimmel gang, named after its leader Bernhard Kimmel, who shot the hut owner Karl Wertz on New Year's Eve 1960/1961. A knight's stone was erected in memory of the hut owner.

May 4, 2025,E-MTB Tour vom Nollen los und 3 mal zur Hohen Loog
At first, we thought the weather wouldn't allow us to go biking today, but everything turned out just fine. From Nollen up to Hohe Loog, then Sühnekreuz, Bergstein, Speierheld to Kühhunger Quelle, up to Loog, then Totenkopfhütte, Hellerhütte, down into Kaltenbrunnertal, then back to Kühhunger Quelle, over to Hohe Loog, then down to Speierheld, and from there to Nollen. Beautiful …

What a beautiful tour with incredibly cool bike friends. 😍
Once again, everything was there...from crazy to flow.
@Criz Eyes and @Trailhunter T. 🇬🇷 It was awesome again with you🥰❤️

@Trailhunter T. 🇬🇷 and @Jürgen & Steffi called and since I was free and in the mood, I followed them as usual and came to the meeting point in Neustadt Festwiese.
Steffi and Jürgen conjured up another great tour with well-known trails around Neustadt.
My battery management was pretty tight and I had to ride sometimes without and sometimes with …

After I couldn't ride last week because my gears were acting up --> it was "just" loose, and I wanted to change my derailleur hanger, we set off again today toward Heidenbrunner Valley, naturally with detours via well-known but cool trails.

I rode our classic favorite tour with Tine today 🥰.

Fast lap in the Palatinate with Stefan and Michael. Short but crisp 👍🚴‍♀️

The tour is very exhausting. During the week, Wednesdays are of course the best day as the huts are open.
The trails, however, demand a lot, since they consist mostly of roots and stones, which requires slower and more balanced driving.

It was awesome again.🔨
Except for the S3 down from Nollenkopf,🙈 but there is also a flowing S1 trail down,👌 they were really cool trails. 💪💪.
But it was really hot today 🔥 and the air was still, even in the forest.
