Siekierki Railway Station

Highlight • Monument

Siekierki station (until 1945: Zäckerick - Alt-Rüdnitz) is the first station on the Wriezener Bahn to the right of the Oder, just after the Oder Bridge. With the reopening and reopening of the Europa Bridge in 2022 as a cycle and footpath, the former railway line on the Polish side was also expanded as a railway line cycle path

The Oder Bridge Bienenwerder, Oder Bridge Neurüdnitz–Siekierki, Europa Bridge Bienenwerder, or Europa Bridge Neurüdnitz–Siekierki (after the two adjacent train stations) is a former railway bridge between the Bienenwerder district of the Brandenburg municipality of Oderaue and the Siekierki (Zäckerick) district of the West Pomeranian town of Cedynia (Zehden). The truss structure carried the Wriezen–Godków railway line over the Oder River.

The Oder Bridge was unused and closed off at the latest after traffic was discontinued in 1983 in the GDR and in 1994 in Poland. On July 26, 1998, a cross-border marathon with a running route took place over the bridge. On September 5, 2012, it was opened for pedestrians and trolley traffic for one day as part of a celebratory event. From March 15, 2014, the bridge on the German side was initially regularly open for trolley traffic up to the state border, but then had to be closed in 2015 at the instigation of the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the Märkisch-Oderland district. The reason for this was a pair of eagle owls nesting on a bridge pier in June 2013; the species is on the Red List in Poland. In July 2017, it was announced that the bridge would be renovated with funds from the INTERREG cooperation program and used as a mixed pedestrian and cycle path. In June 2021, the Polish side was opened up to a viewing platform near the shore, and the German side was commissioned on June 25, 2022.

Railway bridge to cross the Oder, built in 1890 and demolished in 1945 by German troops. 1955 was the reconstruction of the bridge to use this for military purposes. Since mid-2014, the bridge was again temporary, d. H. open on weekends. Between Poland and Germany commuted a Handhebeldraisine as a bridge taxi, which could take bicycles from one side to the other. Since 2015, the Draisinenverbindung is interrupted due to nature conservation concerns.

The Neurüdnitz–Siekierki European Bridge is a unique attraction for cyclists – the longest crossing of the Oder (770 m), transformed into a picturesque trail with a viewing terrace over the floodplains protected by the Cedyński Landscape Park. It is a great place to observe birds and wildlife, especially in September, when the deer rut is in progress. The former railway bridge from the Cold War era, now renovated, connects Polish and German cycling routes, creating great conditions for planning longer trips, e.g. using the ferry in Gozdowice. The route leads mainly on flat, asphalt and paved terrain – ideal for trekking and gravel bikes.
