August 23, 2024,🇮🇹 Bologna: Walk to San Luca
In hot Italy - in vibrant Bologna. Today we walked to the Santuario di San Luca with 30+ degree Celsius. Luckily there are nice porticos - so most of the walk is in the shades. No kidding, I was sweating just standing. Needless to say - carry enough water - there is also a water fountain at the santuario (besides …
This walk was a testing ground for the shoes I'll be wearing next Sunday for the Via degli Dei. San Luca is a classic that can never be missed, you measure yourself precisely. Unfortunately, when it was time to return, it started to rain, so we went back down the porticoes instead of going down the 300 steps.

I picked the perfect day! Cloudy, no rain and 26°.... I wouldn't have done this route if it was sunshine and 30° 🥵

You can do this as an out-and-back from Bologna (recommend to start in Piazza Maggiore) even in bad weather as most of the hike all the way up to the sanctuary is in an open covered gallery/walkway... you could also take a train out to Casechio di Reno and hike up the hill (proper footwear !) and then down to …

First, I took the train from San Marino to Bologna in the morning.

I went hiking in Bologna.

The long walk through the arcades to the Basilica of San Luca was impressive. Great view over the city!

My approximately two-week vacation begins.

Showing Translation

It turned out a little longer than planned. But through the arcades, you can also go up in the sun.
