   Forgot to turn on the "record" button so the round trip walk is about 6.4km (1.5 hours)..you start basically where i ended the walk ans walk straight uphill. lovely walk in the Aarnescht forest. Wear long trousers (ticks, brambles) and hiking shoes rather than trainers. Bring a proper camera to photograph

   Mama Feelgoods cafe is a great place to break this walk, roughly half way along..not just cakes and good coffee but good and varied salads and all day breakfasts.. well worth the deviation from the North Downs Way we were walking (penultimate day)

   Clockwise or anticlockwise it doesnt matter.. anticlockwise was the choice for me.. there is a small caravan with drinks (hot and cold) at lake Staz as well as a restaurant which opens at 11.30.

   You can do this as an out-and-back from Bologna (recommend to start in Piazza Maggiore) even in bad weather as most of the hike all the way up to the sanctuary is in an open covered gallery/walkway... you could also take a train out to Casechio di Reno and hike up the hill (proper footwear !) and then down to Bologna..
