Steinway Park Pond

Highlight • Lake

The spa gardens are named after the inventor of the Steinway grand piano.
The founder of the piano empire, a poor, young carpenter named Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg, was working on a special construction in the laundry room of his Seesen house in 1836. Officially, he is not allowed to make instruments, but Steinweg is building a new type of instrument that makes other pianos sound comparatively disdainful: the first Steinweg grand.
Heinrich Steinweg, who later became known as Henry Steinway from Lower Saxony, had considerable talent for building pianos and also for marketing his instruments.

Lautenthaler Kunstgraben Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Very nice trail along an old canal, grueling final climb if you want to get to Wildemann or past it from above.

You can ride this beautiful trail from Wildemann (above the bike path / railway embankment) to the Osterfeuerplatz above Lautenthal for around 7 km. It's a little downhill. Every now and then there are roots and tight spots, but highly recommended.

This restaurant was built in 1924 by the Harzclub. It is located right next to the old Maassen shaft, and the name Gaipel is reminiscent of the early conveyors, the "Goebel wheels", which used horsepower to extract the ore. On the mining trail in the corner you can still learn a lot about this time today. Or simply stop by the cozy restaurant, which is today run by a friendly Italian.

Here in 1818 the last lynx of the Harz was shot. Since the year 2000 the lynxes are back in the Harz after a settlement project. 😉👍

Here is always a rest. Very nice spot with a great hut, where you get shelter in the rain.

Before the choice came the agony of choice🤔.
Which way am I going today☺
The choice was good, beautiful single trails around the innermost. If you take the Drei Junge Weg in the direction of Wildemann, that's a completely different number than in the direction of Lautenthal.
But cool.
