Große Tredde Forest Path

A wonderful paved bike path through the heart of the forest. It starts behind Dwergte for a few kilometers in the shade. There's also a forest nature trail along the way.

A small river becomes a nature conservation paradise

The Thülsfelder Dam is a reservoir completed in 1927, which was created at the time to regulate the water level of the Soeste River. During heavy rainfall, the meadows and fields in the region around Friesoythe were often flooded, so the river was dammed by a 3-kilometer-wide dam in the area of a valley cut. Today, the Thülsfelder Dam is a beautiful nature reserve with a water surface of 170 hectares and can be easily circumnavigated on well-developed hiking trails. You walk through extensive forests, heathlands and sand dunes, cross wooden bridges and marvel at the lagoons, reed belts and swamp areas on the west bank.

The path around the Thülsfelder Dam is around 10 kilometers long and you can start your exploration on foot or by bike from several free parking areas.

Water birds in particular love the Thülsfeld dam in the middle of Lower Saxony. You can observe them in many places on a bike tour around the dam. The reservoir has been around since 1924. It was created because the Soeste River was often flooded.

Today the dam is a great destination with many cycle paths, camping offers and leisure activities: thuelsfelder-talsperre.de.

The heath landscape with the old sheepfold for the Heideschnucken is a beautiful area of pure nature.

The heathlands and moors at the Thülsfelder Talsperre reservoir are crisscrossed by varied paths through open heath landscapes, quiet moorland areas, and shady forest sections. And every now and then you'll see one of the old, thatched sheepfolds – a beautiful photo opportunity.

March 22, 2023,Talsperre – Die Soeste im Urstromtal Runde von Dwergte mit Anja und Kathy
First longer tour in the Cloppenburger country. From Dwergte in the direction of the Thülsfelder dam, then to Cloppenburg, along the Soeste, a short detour to the "Dicker Stein" natural monument, around the dam and back through the forest. Short rain showers and gusts of wind on the dam included.

Had my car at the car dealer today and used the waiting time wisely 😊. But I had the wrong bike with me. There were so many beautiful Gravel/MTB sections that I would have loved to have ridden. I have to go here again with my MTB☝️😊.

Off to the Thülsfelder Dam. We parked our car on the 🅿️ at the adventure playground, which "free of charge," is very large and located right next to the dam. The bike path initially leads along a beautiful path through the forest to Dwergte, then continues via Molbergen to Cloppenburg. We made a quick stop at the "Genuss Café" on …

It was dry and sunny for a long time and so I thought to myself that the hiking trail on the Soeste from Gut Stedingsmühlen couldn't be quite so wet anymore ... so let's get on the bike and go. To be on the safe side, I had packed a pair of spare socks.
