View of the confluence of the Steyr and Enns rivers

Highlight • River

Rarely does one find anywhere in a city the opportunity to stand so directly at the confluence of two rivers. Steyr on the left, Enns on the right. In this confluence, the colors of the two rivers mix and then flow together as the Enns to the mouth of the Danube in Mauthausen.

Viewpoint and rest area
-The old head of the former bridge over the Enns, which used to connect the old town directly to the right bank of the Enns, offers a wonderful view of the "Skyline" of Steyr.
Benches invite you to linger.

Around 980 the "Stirapurhc" was first mentioned.

The mighty keep of the original fortress is still preserved today. In the 11th century the castle reached its importance as the residence of the Otakare. In 1727 the entire complex was destroyed in a catastrophic city fire in Steyr and rebuilt by the Counts of Lamberg as a representative baroque palace. The Lamberg'sche noble library and sandstone figures are located in the inner courtyard.

Pilgrimage Church Christkindl

Highlight • Religious Site

Christkindl pilgrimage church near Steyr
In 1695, the seriously ill tower keeper and bandmaster Ferdinand Sertl placed a small wax child Jesus in the hollow of a spruce tree. He went there several times a week to pray. When he was cured of epilepsy, so many pilgrims came that it became necessary to build a church. The name “Zum Christkindl unterm Himmel” was born. The current church was begun in 1702 by Giovanni Battista Carlone and completed by Jakob Prandtauer in 1708.
The figure of grace, a standing child Jesus made of wax and only 10 cm high, holding a cross and a crown of thorns in his hands, is now located at the high altar in a small shrine, above the tabernacle shaped like a globe.

St. Michael's Parish Church (Steyr)

Highlight • Religious Site

The suburban parish church of St. Michael characterizes the cityscape of Steyr due to its elevated position. It was built in baroque style from 1635 to 1677 as a church of the Jesuit order. The furnishings of the interior are essentially from the years 1763 to 1771. The altar occupies the entire choir and dates from the year 1766/67.

The city of Steyr is happy about a new landmark. In the future, a panorama lift will connect the city center with the district of Tabor. Hartl Metall built the spectacular platform for entering the new lift – the so-called Taborsteg. Visitors have a wonderful view of the city center and the rivers Steyr and Enns from a dizzy height. Now the spectacular lifting of the platform has been celebrated.
