Interesting route through the Treppenviertel

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The main connection between the residential area and the upper town of Blankenese. A few meters of altitude must be overcome on this beautiful, slightly wider stairway. The stairways curve gently up the slope.

Blankenese Staircase Quarter

Highlight • Settlement

Definitely worth a visit. Many winding alleys lead down to the Elbe beach. In my opinion, the ideal time is on a sunny summer evening. The warm light creates a special atmosphere (see photos).

Blankenese Stair Quarter

Highlight • Settlement

Criss-crossing through the stairs district, taking the stairs up again and again - the effort is rewarded with great views of the Elbe and the district.

Blankenese Stair Quarter

Highlight • Settlement

We came here as part of the Via Baltica. The ascent to Blankenese was a welcome change. Due to the many stairs you have a real ascent - even if you don't expect something like that in Hamburg :-). From the top you have a great view of the Elbe and you can reward yourself with a coffee in one of the many cafes.

Waseberg

Highlight • Climb

With an average gradient of ten percent over 70 meters of elevation gain, this is a classic in Hanseatic cycle racing. The last 300 meters get really tough, with a gradient of 16 percent here.

The stair district in Blankenese is characterized by winding streets, beautiful houses and many steps directly on the Elbe slope. Arrived at the highest point, the visitor is offered a wide view over the Elbe. The Elbe beach invites you to take a walk. The former fishing village also has an interesting history as it was once Danish, Austrian and Prussian. (Source: hamburg.de/treppenviertel/)

May 28, 2025,Waseberg, Süllberg und jede Menge Treppenstufen 😳😁😅
Long planned and completed today, up and down the staircase district in Blankenese.

I stole this tour from another Komoot user; it's a great tour with lots of great views👍
However, you should be really fit; I can still feel the 280m elevation gain in my knees🤣

Reading the itinerary for Everest Base Camp, the many stairs in the Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar are mentioned repeatedly. This meant, of course, that we also had to do some special training to avoid collapsing halfway down the stairs in autumn.

As a media-savvy citizen, you don't believe everything that's on the internet and has 2 likes.
Even the virtual Brockhaus Wiki says that the stair district has over 5000 steps. Myth, step joke?
A fact check had to be done and the steps had to be properly inventoried, so to speak "Staircase Inventory per Pedes", in short TIP to stay …

Today we went to the Elbe suburb of Blankenese and the staircase district there.

Shortly before the weekly market, an accordion player discreetly played French chansons. Very fitting, as Blankenese with its winding streets, small villas on the slopes of the Elbe and often white-painted houses conveys a partly Mediterranean flair.

Up early 👍 + sunshine 🌞 = hooray, the day can come 🥳!
It wasn't quite enough to pull out trees 🌳, but we left our imprint 🥾 on EVERY staircase in Blankenese 🤭

Anyone traveling as a country bumpkin in the megacity of Hamburg needs strong nerves: traffic chaos, noise, exhaust fumes, crowding, drug-related crime, impoverishment and violence are just a few examples that make staying in the urban jungle a challenge. After just a few minutes you feel like Crocodile Dundee in New York. However, there is no lack of social contacts. …

Hiking in Hamburg-Blankenese is a wonderful way to enjoy the nature and maritime views of the city. Blankenese, a picturesque district in the west of Hamburg, also offers slightly more challenging tours, like this one.

I looked out the window this morning and came to the conclusion that the great weather must be used. So I made my way to Blankense. Great experience how to get up and down there stair quarters.
