The first mention was in 1305. It was destroyed by the town fire in 1442 and rebuilt in its current form in 1538 to 1585. It is one of the best-preserved Renaissance town halls in Saxony.

Very nice town hall in the center of the Mulde town. Opposite is also the beautiful townhouse and the registry office.

The building history of the town hall is incomprehensible. It is certain that today's town hall is the third on the new market. The first town hall was built in 1292 and is documented by two documents. It can be assumed that the first town hall building burned to the ground during the great city fire in 1305. Structural remains were found during the construction work in the basement. Only so much is known about the second town hall building from 1368-1438 that various changes were made to today's ground floor. It is believed that the construction of the second town hall began after 1305 and ended around 1360. The oak beam ceiling of the gallery is from this time around 1350. Both buildings, the first and second town hall, were, as was customary at the time, built with a massive basement, a steep pitched roof and half-timbered gables. The roofing consisted of shingles or slates. Until the 15th century the market was about 2 m lower. The current cellar vaults represent the ground floor. This situation can be seen from the exposed cellar stairs on the west gable. In 1442, after an entry in the court register, the third town hall was completed. Construction began in 1438. In this context, the area of the lower town was raised to better counteract the floods. The embankment was triggered by the accumulated debris from the city fire of 1430. The third building was a complete reconstruction of the town hall. The massive basement of the previous buildings became the basement. The outer walls of the north, east and south sides moved outwards by the depth of the department stores. In 1540 the town hall was damaged by fire. However, nothing is known about the extent of the damage. This fire was the reason for the complete renovation of the west gable in brick construction in the style of the early Renaissance. The east gable from 1441 was preserved as a half-timbered gable. The town halls of Wittenberg, Colditz and Plauen were also built around this time. In Grimma, the dominant motif is the large gable, which was changed during later renovations. ....
