Salet Pier at Lake Königssee

Highlight • Rest Area

Last stop and turning point for shipping on the Königssee. Beautiful hikes start from here around the Obersee, to Fischunkelalm or to Rötbachfall. From late morning onwards, it can get very crowded here. Those who want to enjoy a bit more peace and quiet should take one of the earlier boats.

According to legend, the land was once ruled by the cruel King Waze or Wazemann, who spread fear and terror with his wife and children. When he crushed a farming family with his horse, the farmer's wife cursed that God should turn him and his family into stone. Then the earth opened, spit fire and turned the king and his family into stone. In some variants of the legend is still told that the king and Obersee had arisen by the merged blood of the royal family and Watzmanns dogs crashed at the dog death

You are certainly not alone on this hike, but it is still worth it, because the reflections of the mountains in the lake are something very special!

Obersee (Upper Lake)

Highlight (Segment) • Lake

The path from the Saletalm to the Fischunkelalm leads along the banks of the Obersee, in places the path is narrow and steep. The hiking trail is also secured by a railing (ropes) on the rock face on the banks of the Obersee.
The Obersee

Separated from the Königssee by a moraine wall since a landslide in 1172, the Obersee is the little brother of the Königsee. From the Fischunkelalm the ascent to the Röth or to the Wasseralm is possible; This makes it a popular starting point for mountain tours into the Steinerne Meer.
Fischunkelalm & Röthbachfall
The Fischunkelalm is a managed alpine hut on the southeastern bank of the Obersee. Above the Fischunkelalm is the Röthbachfall, the highest waterfall in Germany. In the summer months, the Alm is managed and a popular place to stop for refreshments.

In Obersee are numerous fish species, including especially Arctic char and lake trout. With luck, they can be observed.

First, from Salet, we walked along the shore to the Fischunkelalm. There, they served fresh buttermilk and cheese bread (highly recommended!)

Unfortunately, due to rain and wind, we were unable to make it to the Schneibstein on Sunday. To compensate, mountain guide Peter advised us to use a map and compass to navigate in case the power bank fails or something, but it was quite entertaining. After that, we went to the Jennerbahn mountain station and then down to the boats …

Excursion with the whole gang, grandma, grandpa & kids on the Königssee by boat. Hike to the beautiful, clear, turquoise Obersee to the Fischunkelalm with a small refreshment. The hot temperatures today invited to go fishing in the lake several times.

A wonderful landscape. However, I can only recommend the tour if you take the first boat at 8 a.m. Only then do you have the opportunity to take photos without people around. Mass tourism begins just one hour later

If you want to take nice photos, you should take one of the first boats early. Be sure to try the fresh milk. Good bye

Today's motto was: "I'm happy when it rains, because if I'm not happy, it rains too." 🌧 (Karl Valentin)
In the morning we set off for Königssee. 🚌
We took the boat through the fjord-like landscape to Saletalm.
From there we hiked to the idyllic Obersee in pouring rain. 🌊🌳🐄
We glided back to the peninsula with the pilgrimage church …

A lovely little hike, but please only wear proper footwear. I don't understand how anyone can go hiking in the mountains wearing flip-flops...
The trail is stunningly beautiful and a great experience, even with children.

Everyone was talking about the tour around the Obersee. We went on the boat across the Königssee extra early. It was an experience like being on public transport in Berlin during rush hour. 😐 We got to the hut at the end of the lake, there was no sign of a circular path. It doesn't matter where you go from …
