Groński Boulder

Highlight • Natural Monument

Erratic boulder, grey-pink gneiss, medium-grained, detached block with a visible hole for placing an explosive charge. Boulder circumference 12.3 m, height above ground level 1.4 m.

Until 1957, the boulder was called the Świętochowski Stone or Bolkowy Głaz (-Stone), in honor of Bolesław Krzywousty. On August 23, 1959, PTTK placed a marble commemorative plaque on the boulder dedicated to Stanisław Groński, in 1976 it was changed to a metal one, with the inscription: In memory of Stanisław Groński, leading Polish mountaineer, Pioneer of tourism in the Szczecin Region. He died in the Mont Blanc massif in August 1957.

Chojna Hillfort

Highlight • Historical Site

Also called the Klęskowo settlement, it is located in the Bukowa Forest on the Chojna hill, 74 m above sea level. On its flattened and elongated peak, we can see an early medieval settlement from the 9th-12th centuries. The poorly legible, damaged embankments with a length of 300 m surround a peak with an area of 0.75 ha, covered with pine and beech.
According to legend, there was a mighty castle of robber knights attacking all travelers, ruthlessly looting them. The cursed city and its crew fell into the ground.

Morowe Stones

Highlight • Monument

Morowce are stones dating back to the end of the 18th century, which it is commonly believed that they once marked the boundaries between the lands of the Szczecin and Gryfino poviats. There are 6 of them in the Bukowa Forest. You can also hear a mention that Morowce was set up to protect against plague, black pox and cholera epidemics.

Skórcza Góra Rest Area

Highlight • Rest Area

Resting place at a fork in the road. Shelter with benches, no table. Next to the exercise ladder. Everything is already old. It is close from here to the Emerald Lake and the Plague Stones.

Emerald Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

A concrete bridge, a remnant of the tracks of a railway transporting spoil from a former chalk and marl mine, operated by the nearby Portland cement factory "Stern" owned by the Toepffer family, established in 1862. In 1925, a sudden overflow of groundwater into the excavation occurred through a layer of permeable sand. The excavation was quickly taking on water. People were evacuated immediately. The excavation was flooded. A lake was created.
The bridge after major renovation. An inscription with the date of construction of the bridge - 1890 - was left.

Szmaragdowe Lake is located on the outskirts of Szczecin, near the Zdroje housing estate. The name comes from the characteristic greenish color of the water, which is due to the high lime content - the lake was created on the site of a former chalk mine. In 1925 the mine was flooded by water - at the bottom of the lake there are supposedly still flooded mining equipment. Narrow-gauge railway wagons, which transported the output from the mine, used to drive on the picturesque concrete bridge on the shore of the lake. The lake is constantly fed by groundwater. Currently, its maximum depth reaches 18 meters.
