Emerald Lake, known locally as Jezioro Szmaragdowe, is a captivating artificial lake situated on the eastern outskirts of Szczecin, Poland. Nestled within the picturesque Szczecin Landscape Park, also referred to as Puszcza Bukowa (Beech Forest), this unique body of water sits at an elevation of approximately 109 meters. Its most striking feature is its vibrant emerald-green to blue-green color, a result of sunlight reflecting off microscopic calcium carbonate particles from the site's past as a chalk mine.

    Hiking

The lake is considered the most beautiful place in Szczecin. Its name comes from the characteristic emerald green hue that results from saturation with calcium carbonate and sunlight reflected from the chalk bed.

There is a viewing terrace nearby from which you can observe the panorama of the Lower Oder Valley and the city of Szczecin. On the southern bank there is a fire station with an underground system of passages. These objects were still built by the Germans. Nearby there are also the “Polana Widok” viewpoint, the “Grota” restaurant (note: CLOSED) and a path for a walking route.

A beautiful scenic walk around the green waters of Emerald Lake, formed on the site of an ancient Cretaceous fossil. The great tourist development of the area allows you to spend an active day in the heart of nature. A dense network of hiking trails and footpaths allows you to plan excursions of any length. A short walk to a beautiful vantage point from which you can see Szczecin and the Oder Valley from above is also worthwhile.
