And who was Groński? Stanisław Groński was a Polish mountaineer and a pioneer of tourism in the Szczecin region, as you will learn from the information placed on the boulder itself. Mr. Groński died a tragic death during an expedition to Mont Blanc in 1957.

Until 1957, the boulder was called the Świętochowski Stone or Bolkowy Głaz (-Stone), in honor of Bolesław Krzywousty. On August 23, 1959, PTTK placed a marble commemorative plaque on the boulder dedicated to Stanisław Groński, in 1976 it was changed to a metal one, with the inscription: In memory of Stanisław Groński, leading Polish mountaineer, Pioneer of tourism in the Szczecin Region. He died in the Mont Blanc massif in August 1957.
