A great foretaste of the coming days WHW. Def. the highlight of the first stage. In October it was well attended at sunset, but not uncomfortably overcrowded.

Path to Conic Hill Summit

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Conic Hill is part of a major geological feature known as the Highland Boundary Fault. This forms a zone separating the lowlands to the south from the Highlands to the north, each with different rock types, landscapes, animal and plant life, and cultural heritage. There are wonderful views from the top.

View of Loch Lomond from Bealach Ard

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Bealach Ard is the gap in the ridge between Conic Hill and the subsidiary Tom nan Oisgin. For those ascending to Conic Hill from Balmaha, emerging from the trees here is a glorious moment, revealing a stunning Highland vista. Views across Loch Lomond's islands and over to the Arrochar Alps are sure to stir the soul.

Once you've crested the top of Conic Hill you're rewarded with this magnificent view of Loch Lomond and the mountains beyond. Of course, if it's raining you'll not see any of this, but you can gain comfort from the fact that the view is there regardless, just hidden behind lots (and lots) of cloud.

Panoramic view over Scotland's largest lake: Lock Lomond has been part of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park since 2002 and is considered the most beautiful lake in Scotland.

July 16, 2025,Conic Hill - West Highland Way. Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park
Loop starting from Balmaha, Up Conic Hill and following the West Highlands way.
Yesterday we arrived in the Southwest Highlands. And today we were going straight to a local highlight - Conic Hill with its fantastic view over Loch Lomond.

The climb was a really great start to the tour. First through loose forests and paths with dense undergrowth on the left and right and small, gurgling streams on the occasional occasion. Then …
