Nideck Waterfall

Highlight • Other

At a height of 534 meters and south of the ruins of Nideck Castle, the waterfall falls from a wall of volcanic rock. The 25 meter high waterfall is embedded in a perfectly preserved nature.

Extensive walking and hiking trails are available to visitors here, which offer freshness and shade, especially in summer. The legend of the giants of Nideck Castle gives the place a special atmosphere, which is further enhanced by the wilderness and the forest.
The mountaintop itself offers exceptional views of the Bruche Valley. Extra paths have been laid out for easy access to the waterfall.

Even if the waterfall mutates into a small trickle in summer, the charm and attraction of this romantic place remains unchanged.

Access: RD 218, hiking trail opposite the "Maison forestière du Nideck"

Ruins of Nideck Castle

Highlight • Castle

Impressive view over the almost endless forests of the upper Bruchetal from the upper castle. The castle is five kilometers northwest of Oberhaslach at an altitude of 550 meters on the slope of the Bärenberg on a steep rhyolite rock above the Haseltal. Immediately below is the 25 meter high Nidecker waterfall (Cascade du Nideck).

Refuge du Schneekopf

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Great view. As of February 2021, the hut is unfortunately closed due to the pandemic.

11/2021:
Good news: the hut is open again. Downstairs there is a large table, fireplace, saw and matches. There's even a grill grate hanging on the wall, but I'm not sure how to use it in the fireplace. A ladder takes you under the roof, there's plenty of space to sleep and even a hammock :)

The path leads from the foot of the waterfall up to its top via numerous stairs... from there you can continue hiking to the Nideck castle ruins

A beautiful tour through partly alpine terrain.
From the increasingly narrow Nideck Gorge, after the waterfall, the route continues along fantastic mountain trails to two castle ruins; a climb is definitely worth it.
The route continues to the Schneeberg summit, where an interesting rocky plateau can be climbed. The return route, with repeated magnificent views, leads back to the castle …

A beautiful, deserted, strenuous route. The hiking trails are really beautiful. They are more like small, narrow paths right through the wilderness in parts.

It's easy to miss the signposts in the Vosges, that happened to me once on the tour and cost me a few more kilometers. Unfortunately, I had a very old hiking guide, maybe that's why it happened 🙈. It doesn't matter, it was a very nice tour with great views of the Rhine plain and the Vosges and of course …

For our maiden hike in the Vosges we chose this fantastic tour today.
Many thanks to Patrick Göser, who shared and aptly described them at the beginning of May 👍

Great trails and views in a great corner.

On the ascent to the Baerenberg we had to briefly leave the tour and scramble up the slope cross-country to avoid the …
