Ponale Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Super downhill track with gravel and again small, earthy hills and curves. Not only is downhill fun, but the ride uphill is unique. Always a great view of the Lago and pleasant slope percentages. In the high season you have to count up and down again and again with oncoming traffic (bikers and runners).

Ponale Road

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Exceptional, to be done on foot, by bike both on the outward and return journey even several times. About 3 km from the start there is a bar with a panoramic terrace for a break.
Very busy especially in the central hours of the day. Attention, pedestrians must walk to the left (lake side), and cyclists keep to the right, starting from Riva del Garda.

Lake Ledro

Highlight • Lake

The Lago di Ledro is a tip at any time of the year. You can reach it via the Ponale road from Riva (good condition required), just walk around it or use it as a starting point for a Tremalzo tour (even better condition required 😁).

Pile-dwelling Village at Lake Ledro

Highlight • Historical Site

Lake Ledro, or Lago di Ledoro, west of Lake Garda, is one of the cleanest lakes in Trentino and perfect for a short rest on a hot MTB tour.

Forerunner of today's power station in Riva. Also known as "La Centrale Idroelettrica Rovereto sul Ponale".
The hydroelectric power station "operated by the Commune Rovereto" is located downstream from the town of 'Biacesa di Ledro'. It was built in 1905 to meet Rovereto's energy needs. Today it is in a complete state of abandonment, but still accessible on foot.
(Q: Motor education studio Ghirotti System)

history:
Until 1919 Rovereto belonged to the K&K monarchy of Austria and became a bitterly contested frontline town during World War I. Rovereto was the builder and owner of this hydroelectric power station.
It was not until the construction of the Ponale pass road that a new large-scale pressure water line was built from Lake Ledro to the new hydroelectric power station to/in Riva. These pipes run above ground close to the chapel of St.Barbara. After the commissioning of this new power plant in Riva, the Rovereto power plant went offline and was shut down (Q: Wikipedia)

The current "Riva" power plant, built in 1925 and located down in the port of Ponale, replaced this small power plant and also used the water of the stream of the same name to operate its more powerful turbines

The perfect place to start a bike tour. From the bridge you can let your gaze wander over the Sarca and guess how it flows a few kilometers downriver into Lake Garda. If you look in the other direction, you will see Arco and beyond the mountains, which you can quickly reach from here.

Riva, with its charming old town and its many small shops and spacious pedestrian zones and squares, is always worth a visit. In summer, the beach is almost always completely full and there is a lot going on around the shore of the lake. Whether surfers, swimmers, sun worshippers, bikers or walkers, everyone enjoys the great atmosphere.
