Riva del Garda is a town on the northern shore of Lake Garda, part of Trentino. Together with the neighboring municipality of Arco Riva del Garda forms a contiguous settlement area of more than 30,000 inhabitants. Riva was already inhabited in Roman times. Riva used to belong to Austria-Hungary and at that time was called Reiff am Gartsee. During the First World War Riva was a fortress and was shot at by the Italian artillery, which caused considerable damage. After the war, it was ceded to Italy in the Treaty of St. Germain.
