Kanonenbahn Rail Trail Tunnels

Highlight • Cycleway

This section is awesome. The quality of the bike path is great. Very often there are benches to rest. The 5 tunnels are an experience. The signs are perfect. It's just fun.

A very nice bike path. It would have been a bit boring without the five tunnels, though. It was quite cold for most of it: only 8 degrees Celsius! But there were plenty of rest stops. Just not at the end point in Dingelstädt.

Where else can you find such a beautiful bike path as the Kanonenbahnradweg?
There you drive through many tunnels and a beautiful landscape, the viaduct is very beautiful and you can also take a trolley there.

We started in Dingelstädt and took the Kanonenbahn cycle path to Lengenfeld unter den Stein as far as Großtöpfer to the cyclists' church. On the beautiful cycle path we rode through 6 tunnels and a viaduct where we had a beautiful view of Lengenfeld and the beautiful landscape. Afterwards we went to Großbartartloff at the waterfall.

I became aware of this beautiful tour through @Andi I. & Marini I.. I was so inspired by your tour from May 1, 2024, that I immediately saved it. It's taken over a year for us to complete it.

I tweaked the original a bit...
We started right at Dingelstädt station and made our U-turn in Frieda. So we cycled …

Today I went on a bike ride from Frida in Hesse to Dingelstädt in Thuringia. It's a nice, easy-to-ride path, but from Frieda onward it's always uphill, but manageable except for a few short stretches. The tunnels are a great way to cool off on warm days. The longest tunnel on this route is 1,530 meters. Check it out.

Today, my darling and I rode the Kanonenbahn cycle path.
With the beautiful weather, it was a very nice ride.
Unfortunately, the "Lindenhof" restaurant in Küllstedt is closed until April 18th - Good Friday.
But all the tunnels are easily navigable, and that was the most important thing for us - just ride through.
