View of the Frankfurt Skyline from the Main Riverbank

Highlight • Viewpoint

A view of the Frankfurt skyline from the Schaumainkai east of the Untermain Bridge, from a time before the word "skyline" and its associated image existed: On the far left, the bell tower on the roof of the church in the Carmelite Monastery (now the Archaeological Museum); to its right (in the background), the tower of St. Catherine's Church at the Hauptwache; next to that, the Town Hall tower known as "Langer Franz" at the northwest corner of the Römer complex; to its right (again in the background), the tower of St. Paul's Church rises; immediately next to it, in the foreground on the Main River, is St. Leonhard's Church; further to the right is the tower of St. Nicholas' Church at the Römerberg. The characteristic view is completed by the Iron Bridge, behind which the Saalhof with the Rententurm, Bernus Building, and Burnitz Building can be seen, and on the far right, St. Bartholomew's Cathedral.

Osthafenpark Frankfurt

Highlight • Rest Area

In interplay with the new ECB building, the redeveloped shipyard areas, the Deutschherrenbrücke bridge, and the Main riverbank, an impressive park has been created here on a section of the Osthafen with diverse sports facilities, places to stop for refreshments, wildflower meadows, and a sunbathing lawn. Historical references to the wholesale market area with remnants of the harbor railway – but also a memorial to the deportation of Jews in the Third Reich – complete the ensemble. A connecting track between the West and Osthafen has also been preserved here!

It is not surprising that it gets very busy here when the weather is nice. A successful chapter in the urban development of Frankfurt!

The riverside promenade offers stunning views of the skyline and is the perfect place to take a stroll, relax or simply watch the hustle and bustle of the river.

Another highlight of the Mainkai is the Museumsufer, a series of museums along the river that offer a wide range of art, history and culture. Here you can discover the history of Frankfurt, view an impressive art collection or just stroll through the gardens.

The Mainufer with its promenade, the green areas and its distinctive bridges is one of the big attractions of the city. Overlooking the impressive skyline, the residents of Frankfurt and their guests can walk for miles along the shore, go jogging or cycling. From here also the excursion boats start along the Main. Art lovers will also appreciate the numerous museums along the banks of the River Main, which is one of Europe's most important museum locations.

We regularly take exactly this walk for Ilka's birthday.
The light was good until midday and then it clouded over.
We weren't allowed into the small market hall with Eddie.
Instead we had delicious pasta in an Italian restaurant on Cathedral Square.
Dessert then followed in the Liebighaus café.
It was nice. 😊

Frankfurt – financial metropolis on the Main – headquarters of the ECB – birthplace of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe – New Old Town – Römer – St. Paul's Church… Frankfurt has a lot to offer!
Today I'm walking with a friend on the Frankfurt side towards the ECB and on the Sachsenhausen side back to the Hohlbeinsteg bridge. Unfortunately, it …

Pleasant loop along the Main where it is pleasantly busy around this time. There are several Summer Festival activities these weeks. In front of the ECB there is a nice restaurant (`Oosten') with a great terrace where we had a nice lunch.
I'm surprised at what Frankfurt's banks of the Main have to offer. Craziness. The trip was worth it

Today a trip to our "neighbouring city" Frankfurt. Again with nice and pleasant temperatures.

I only knew Frankfurt from the sports school and the Waldstadion, I had never been to the city center.
The 9-euro ticket made the trip cheaper, of course. The highlights of the city center are all within a manageable framework, so that you can visit a lot in one day. Despite all the historical monuments and the imposing skyscrapers, the …

A delightful round trip along the Main. The water level in the Main is currently high and flowing fast which makes the Main water an excellent mirror.
A Sunday tour of the Main metropolis took us past many, many bridges. The detours to Römerberg, the new old town, Westend and Ostend are always nice. 🌤🌊
