The water tower in Tilburg was built in 1897 for the Tilburg Water Supply Company. That year, the city received not only a tower but also a pipe network and a pumping station. The tower was designed by architect H.P.N. Halbertsma. During World War II, the Germans used the tower as a lookout tower. At the end of the war, on October 26, 1944, the Germans tried unsuccessfully to blow up the tower. The tower remained standing, but the superstructure and the reservoir were severely damaged.
